This tour is for those who do not mind long days as the driving distances are quite long on this tour or about 900 kilometers including a visit to the Blue Lagoon). Stop at the stunning waterfalls, the black sand beaches, the glacier lagoon and charming towns. After a day of sightseeing visit the Blue Lagoon to enjoy a soak in the mineral rich waters leaving you fully relaxed after a day of road tripping. Some exciting optional activities can be added to the tour for those interested.

Itinerary


Pick up car and The Greenhouse Town
Get ready for an exciting day of sightseeing. In the morning you will be picked up and taken to the car rental office where you will receive your car for the day.
Start driving to the outskirts of Reykjavik towards Iceland´s scenic South Coast. First up is a visit to the greenhouse community at Hveragerði town.
Steam from natural vents rises into the air around this small charming town but this geothermal energy is used to heat up greenhouses in town.

Selfoss Town
Continue to Selfoss where you can take a stroll or visit a local cafe or bakery.

Waterfalls and Volcanoes
From Selfoss continue to the South coast passing two small towns, Hella and Hvolsvollur. Make a pit stop by the beautiful waterfall Seljalandfoss and if you feel like it you can walk behind it and feel the light vatery mist. From Seljaladsfoss waterfall continue to the majestic Skogafoss waterfall. From Skogar lies a popular hiking trail which leads up to the site of a volcanic eruption in 2010 where the earth is still warm.

A Nature Reserve, Black Beaches and Rock Formations
Continue to Dyrholaey Nature Reserve, the southernmost part of Iceland. Here thousands of birds nest over the summer time and an absolute paradise for the birdwatcher. A short boat tour in the vicinity of the reserve is available during summer. After a visit to the Nature reserve visit the black beach Reynisfjara where strangely formed basalt columns, cliffs and caves are to be found. Visit the Small town Vík which is a turnaround point.

Relax in the Blue Lagoon
Continue back along the shore towards Reykjavik and revisit some sites if you like. Continue to the Blue Lagoon settled in the lunar landscapes of Reykjanes peninsula. Enjoy a relaxing bath in the mineral rich waters after a full day of Sightseeing. Continue back to Reykjavik where you will return your car.

In Winter: You might want to keep the car for the night if you want to go on a hunt for the inspiring northern lights. The car does not have to be returned until 08:00 the next morning the latest.

Pricing policy:

Full payment is required for day tours at the time of booking.

Type of car: The price is based on a Hyundai i20 with an automatic transmission or similar. You can upgrade to a larger vehicle as an optional extra. Other vehicle types are available upon request.

Driving Distance:
This tour covers approximately 460 kilometres with a visit to the Blue Lagoon. Those who prefer not to go to the Blue Lagoon can expect to be driving about 380 kilometres.

NOTE:
For most of the summer we have daylight 24/7 so if you do not mind long days this tour is suitable for you.

Where to eat:
There are several places on the south coast where you can get some lunch and snacks. these are mainly at the small towns along the way.

In Winter:
We recommend using a 4x4 vehicle for this tour from October 1st - April 30th as there is a chance of encountering snow.
In winter you might want to keep the car for the night to go out on a hunt for the Northern Lights.

Driving conditions:
All roads are paved on this rout and well maintained. In winter all cars are equipped with special winter tires for safety.
