Whale Watching from Reykjavik

The opportunity to see whales in their native environment makes our whale watching tour truly a one-of-a-kind experience. Faxaflói bay, home to a unique variety of minke whale and humpback whales, harbour porpoises and white-beaked dolphins, is a perfect setting for this Iceland day trip. The local bird life is also diverse, including such birds as the puffin, Arctic tern, gannet and many varieties of gull.

Itinerary

All tours are given by knowledgeable, well-trained guides who tell you where to look to see the best views of nature and wildlife and describe what you see. How much and what you see varies on the sea conditions and season, but our qualified guides are happy to try to answer all your questions.
Because each whale watching tour is unique; we organise your trip taking sea conditions, weather and seasons into account, but we usually can find an excellent vantage point no more than 15 nautical miles from the harbour.

Take the opportunity to visit the Whale Watching Exhibition Centre after the tour; here you can explore the mysteries of the ocean. The Centre is located in an old capelin fishing vessel, “Fífill”, which has been converted into an exhibition and information centre on whales and seabirds.

The entrance to the Whale Exhibition Room is free for passengers on our whale watching trip. The tour price does not include a return transfer, but the Whale Exhibition Room is just minutes from the city centre, so it won’t take long to walk back after your tour. Local busses, taxis and a shuttle service (offered by the whale watching company Elding) are options if you do not want to go downtown (extra charge).

Our winter whale watching day tour is available at 13:00 every day from 1 October to 31 March. For your comfort and warmth, we can lend you special suits, but we do advise you to wear warm clothes; hot drinks and light refreshments are offered in our on-board café to warm you up. Alternatively, we have sitting areas inside the boat where you can enjoy the view from large windows and stay warm at the same time.
