Country Life is an ideal tour for those who want to experience the whole variety of Icelandic landscape, culture, history, and nature in only nine days. You visit two of Iceland’s three national parks, and there are opportunities to do some walks in the beautiful countryside most days during the tour. In activities, you will learn about the Icelandic horse, experience sea angling, visit a folk museum with its turf houses, visit a Viking Age Settlement museum and explore the natural habitat of whales on a whale watching tour. You bathe in a pool of geothermal water rich in minerals and silica, walk on black lava beaches and sail between floating icebergs on a glacial lagoon. Accommodation is in a mix of 3 and 4-star hotels; all rooms are with private facilities.

Itinerary

Day 1. Arrival and airport transfer



A Flybus transfer from the airport to or near your hotel in Reykjavík where the first night is included. We provide ideas how to explore Iceland's capital on your own.

Day 2. Land of Sagas



Your first packed day gives you a taste of the capital and then heads west, for an insight into Iceland's past and some incredible natural gems. The highlights include:

A sightseeing tour of Reykjavík – showing you some of the city's best attractions
The Settlement Centre in Borgarnes - where you can find out all about the world-famous Icelandic sagas
Grábrók volcano crater – round trip hike
Deildartunguhver – one of Europe's most powerful hot springs
Hraunfossar – a distinctive series of waterfalls that emerge from beneath vast lava fields and run into the Hvítá River
Reykholt – a fascinating cultural site where you can find out something of Iceland's history

Day 3. From West to North



Now your tour heads north, as you make your way through an ever-changing landscape of lush farmland and stunning mountains. The day includes:

• A whale watching and sea angling tour – for 2-3 hours in Eyjafjörđur, Iceland's longest fjord, right below the Arctic Circle.
• A stop in Akureyri – Iceland’s second largest city, with a variety of cultural, commercial and natural attractions to enjoy
Húsavík picturesque town – your overnight stay for the next two nights

Day 4. Gođafoss Waterfall, Geological Wonders and Nature Baths



Today the natural treasures come thick and fast with outdoor bathing and one of Iceland's most attractive lakes. The highlights include:

Gođafoss – one of Iceland's best-known waterfalls
Lake Mývatn – one of the most fertile and fascinating areas in the country, known for its rich and varied bird life and many natural curiosities, such as pseudo craters and odd lava structures

Day 5. From North to East



The tour heads east, through more fantastic scenery, before crossing the remote highlands. The schedule includes:

Námaskarđ – a geothermal area that is well worth exploring
Krafla – where you can see the dramatic impact of volcanic activity on the Icelandic landscape
Dettifoss – the most powerful waterfall in Europe, located in the north of Vatnajökull National Park
• A trip across the deserted and magnificent highlands to the east of the country

Day 6. Fjords, Glacier and Glacier Lagoon

  • A cancellation fee of 20% of the tour price and accommodation will be retained by us for cancellations made from 4 to 8 weeks before tour start. From 28 days until 8 days before tour start, the fee is 50%. No refund is possible for cancellations less than 8 days before tour start, or for no shows, and a tour begun, but not completed. The exchange of one arrangement for another must be agreed by us beforehand. Iceland Road Trip reserves the right to charge a non-refundable bookings fee/payment deposit of up to 20 % in order to secure space on the tour.

PAYMENT:

A non refundable deposit of 20%, of the total package price should reach Iceland Road Trip within 3 days of confirmation of booking and full payment not later than 6 weeks prior to tour departure. In case of delay on payments, Iceland Road Trip will reserve the right to treat this as a cancellation and withdraw its confirmation of the services.

Every detail regarding the booking must be included, in order for Iceland Road Trip to ensure efficiency, including the passengers name, flight information, all accommodation, tours and other services.

Travel Insurance:

To avoid dispute in case of cancellation, we strongly recommend that our clients purchase a comprehensive travel insurance in their home country, that covers your cost should you have to cancel your tour. This kind of travel insurance is usually not expensive and it frequently covers other risks too.
